2014 – what a fun year of fashion!

Here’s a glance at a few of my favorite looks of the year:
Ponchos and fringe.
Red, pink & leopard.

Maxis & chucks.

 1960’s retro.

Moto.

Ladylike.

Is it a dress? Is it a vest?  Is it a cape? Who knows?

Glad in gladiators!

Wrap it up.

 Leopard AND plaid?!

Southwest at its best!

Back in black.

How was your 2014, Dolls?  Mine was full of changes, both good and bad, including the loss of my best friend and shopping buddy, my mom.  My hope for 2015 is that life settles into a nice rhythm and flow, and that any changes come in bite-sized bits.

Thanks for spending the year with me. So looking forward to another year of fashion fun with all you sweet fabulous chicks!

My Fav Plaid Looks from my Fav Bloggers!

December 27, 2014

I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite outfits from some of my favorite bloggers!  And every party loves a theme, so I decided on the trend of the season: PLAID!

Here’s me mixing some buffalo plaid with a leopard scarf.
The always stunning and smart Jan of Fort Smith Stylista is rocking plaid pants.

The funky and chic Monika of Style is my Pudding looks so fresh and cool.

How cozy and chic is Trina from Tea Time with Trina in her fabulous layers?

Gorgeous Suzanne of Suzanne Carillo Style Files shows us how to style the tricky blanket scarf.

Also sharing her blanket scarf savvy, here’s adorable Marta of Sweaters, Stripes, and Sweets.

The always classy Annette from Lady of Style wears a beautiful plaid scarf with some sexy leather pants.

The ever fashionable and funny Gracey of Fashion for Giants looks fab in these plaid pants and leopard shoes.

Ashely of Fancy Stuff and Pretty Things is looking so adorable in the this versatile plaid shirt-dress.

Alice of Happiness at Mid-Life is modeling a stunning holiday look.  Sequins and plaid?  Yes, please!

Sassy and fabulous Debbie of Fashion Fairy Dust is rocking plaid with an awesome statement necklace.

Jill of Doused in Pink looks polished and pretty in a plaid dress paired with a sweater.

Chic Jennie of A Pocketful of Polka Dots boldly mixes patterns for a fun on trend look.

Shanna of Because Shanna Said So doubles the plaid for double the fun, double the adorable.

Carylee of More Pieces of Me is looking fresh and chic with an adorable plaid heart accent.

Sandae of Curvy Girl on the Run shows two pattern trends in one outfit … plaid and fair isle.  Super cute!

J of Bless Her Heart Y’all is looking gorgeous pairing her plaid with a denim jacket.

Tina of Tickled Pink Woman looking lovely in this cozy plaid coat. Love the red glasses!

The very lovely Lynn of the IG account @lynnnie34 is looking cool in her plaid shirt and riding boots.

And last but never ever least, the always stunning Amy Ann of The Real Arnolds mixes plaid with polka dots.

Well, what do you think of the plaid trend, Dolls?  I know I missed a few of my favorite bloggers in this round up, either because I couldn’t find a plaid look or just because I ran out of steam and started seeing plaid when I closed my eyes and decided it was time to finish up!

A huge thanks to all my blogger buddies who inspire me daily!

(If for some reason you don’t want to be included in the list or are unhappy with your photo, please just let me know. This is meant to honor you!)

Black Vintage

December 26, 2014
Missing my mom this Christmas, I found myself really wanting to incorporate her vintage coat into an outfit this season.  I love this fabulous wool coat and the cool silver buttons. It’s a bit large on me, but I figured with the oversize coat trend, I could get away with it!

I started with my favorite basic LBD from New York & Company.

I added classic pumps and a vintage snakeskin clutch.

And I did the messy up-do (thank goodness messy is in, since I can’t seem to make a neat one to save my life) with vintage-inspired marcasite earrings.

Mom would’ve loved the classic simplicity.  Sometimes less really is more, right?

Hope all my dolls had a very wonderful holiday celebration!  In my next post, I’ll be sure to feature some of my Christmas gifts.  Can’t wait to see what Santa brought all my fav fashionistas this year!

Python Dress – Day to Night

December 19, 2014

When Altuzarra for Target was launched, I loved this glam python print dress, but passed it by since I don’t have much use for a dressy dress in my casual lifestyle.  But when I saw it on the 70% off rack a month later, I couldn’t resist! I decided it would be fun to try to do a day to night look with it.

For a daytime look I went with tights and riding boots with a boyfriend cardi. I threw on a scarf for some extra warmth and neckline coverage.

Outfit details:
Python dress – Altuzarra (Target)
Riding boots – Nine West American Vintage (DSW)
Cardigan – Lauren Conrad (Kohls)
Earrings – Tilly’s
Bag – Oryany (TJ Maxx)

I wore this look to work and then to a holiday lunch with the gals.

With my work bestie and IG fashionista, Lynn (@lynnnie34).

With very dear friends, Glenda and Sherry.
(Looks at all those presents!)

For the evening, I added classic black pumps, a snakeskin clutch, and a statement necklace.

Perfect for a holiday party or fancy date night.

Outfit details:
Dress – Altuzarra (Target)
Classic heels – Apt 9 (Kohls)
Snakeskin clutch – vintage (thrifted)
Collar necklace – Tasha (Nordstrom)

One more very busy day of finals for this teacher and then two weeks off!  Woohoo!  Bring on the holiday fun!

Aztec Blanket Cardigan

December 15, 2014
While browsing online for Christmas gift ideas, I came across this cool blanket sweater and how could I resist?  I’ve been keeping an eye out for the perfect Aztec inspired cardigan and this was it … and it was even on sale!

Merry Christmas to me, from me!

Outfit details:
Distressed jeans – Old Navy
Knee-high boots – Aerosoles
Cowl neck sweater – INC (Macys)
Fringe bag – Carlos Santana
Sunglasses – Ralph Lauren
Earrings – Lucky Brand

It’s super warm and cozy!

I took my cute new cardi to the local mall for some Christmas shopping.

I got a few great gifts  … and didn’t buy myself anything (good girl, Dawn!) … well except for a Starbucks for some shopping energy, which I enjoyed by the fire pit.

Perfect setting for this sweater, right?  I hope the hubby and I make it up to the mountains for some skiing soon.  This sweater would be perfect by the fire in the lodge!

Getting excited for the holidays, Dolls?  I’m so looking forward to  having two weeks off.  And I can’t wait to check out all your holiday looks!

EShakti Poncho

December 8, 2014

What is the first thing you think of when you think of eShakti?  Darling dresses, right?  Well, eShakti does have amazingly pretty dresses and I have two that I just adore (posts here and here.).  But this time when eShakti wanted to collaborate, I wanted to try something different from their diverse selection.  What did I pick? This cool, funky herringbone poncho!

I love the juxtaposition of the boho vibe of a poncho, with the classic twist of herringbone, and then the modern edge with the faux leather trim.

I wanted to wear the poncho alone to show off the lines, but I can’t wait to wear it on a cold day with a cozy turtleneck and/or a cool chunky scarf!

I love that eShakti asks for your details when they make something for you. Knowing my height (5’7″), they made my poncho the perfect length, long enough to cover the booty, but short enough to show some leg for a flattering silhouette.

Outfit details:
Boots – Adrienne Vittadini ( DWS)
Jeans – Gap
Earrings – Tiffanys
Clutch – vintage snakeskin (thrifted)
Sunnies – Readers.com
&
Poncho – eShakti!

Be sure to head over to eShakti to check out their chic selection!

So, how’s the holiday shopping going, Dolls? This bad little Santa finally bought a few presents this weekend.  Why do I keep seeing such cute things for myself when I’m looking for others?  Please tell me I’m not the only one with this problem!

Bad Santa

December 6, 2014

If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you might remember this red wool coat that I bought at the after Christmas sale at Macy’s last year (original post here … gee, my photos were bad back then!)

Wore this fun look out for a Saturday morning breakfast.  What do you think of the red shades?

Outfit details:

Coat – Larry Levine (Macys)
Jeans – Gap Always Skinny
Top – Old Navy
Sneakers – Candies (Kohls)
Sunnies – Marc by Marc Jacobs

Right now I’m feeling like this outfit could be my new uniform.  Plenty of my fav color (red)?  Check!  Skinny jeans? Check!  Black and white stripes? Check!  Leopard sneakers? Check!

Perfect for a crisp and sunny California fall/winter day!
How’s the Christmas shopping going, Dolls?  Went shopping online the other day and only bought a present for myself!
