Hippie Chic(k) @ 40+

February 21, 2014

I dress according to my mood. Anyone else?  Rocker, preppy, girly, sophisticated, punky, funky …. you get the idea … many moods, many fashion inspirations!  This week the archetype of the free spirited hippie was my style muse ….

Peace, love, and shopping!

Are ponchos still in? Well, I don’t care … I think they’re groovy and full of attitude!

Carlos Santana handbag.  Guess flare jeans.

My husband seems to love the boho chic look on me and bought me this amazing Free People sweater coat for Christmas.

Our home in the Santa Cruz mountains definitely has a bohemian aesthetic.

Fringe heaven …

Another cool Free People sweater coat from the hubby ….

Love all the colors …

In true hippie spirit, I stopped to smell the flowers ….

And this lil fashion puppy is always on hand, eagerly awaiting any opportunity for a photobomb.

So fashion dolls, do you have any boho pieces that you love?  Do you think this look works past 40?  Do you change up styles or tend to mostly stick to one signature look?  I always love to hear your thoughts!

Stef *loves* Free People. But she's frugal so it's up to me to force the smile on her face by buying things for her there and leaving the receipt in the bag!

    • Reply dawnlucy February 22, 2014 at 12:16 pm

Dragon boy, I'm just like Stef! Shannon buys me Free People and I stay happily ignorant of the price!

I can slip back into my hippie roots at any given time! Love all these boho looks on you and I love free people. It took me a while to buy flares jeans, but I bought them and love them. xoxo

    • Reply dawnlucy February 24, 2014 at 4:51 pm

Thanks, Paula! Flare jeans are flattering on many figures, I think. For me, they help to balance my hips. A hippy hippie! 😉

Dawn you are a doll! This is such a fun post and it looks like you are having some fashion FUN ;). Not only can you pull off these colorful boho looks you look happy. I'm glad to see that life is good. I still love a poncho type wrap-the most comfortable style of dressing. I just wore a loosely woven one in Los Cabos as a matter of fact. Thanks for following along on my travels!
    Happy Sunday!

Dawn, Love it! I, too, dress according to my moods. And this boho mood is quite splendid and so much fun. I'm a die hard fan of anything Free People so that sweater coat is fabulous as well as your free spirit for the day. And, ues, of course it works past 40.

Of course I did! Then. I did way back when in the late 60s … I remember an Indian cotton skirt, midi length with self-fringe. And a full length military coat, fitted, with brass buttons. And rough-out, knee-high moc boots with little turquoise colored beads on the zipper pull tabs.
You, of course, look fabulous and retro rather than lost in the era! You wear the period very well. Love your husband's taste in gifts!

Hi Dawn! Love the name of your blog FASHION SHOULD BE FUN!!

You can wear whatever your heart desires, you are beautiful and I love your style! Like you, I don't care if something is "out of style" (says who?) if I like it – I wear it. Actually, I'm glad we live in a time when everything goes: maxi and minis, skinnies and flares, vintage and new. I think the important thing about fashion is to have fun with it.

    Fashion is fun!!

    Dawn,
Thanks for your recent visit to my website! I was delighted to see your post on Bohemian fashion featuring my favorite brand Free People! I tend to dress boho most of the time, but that being said, I'm fairly moody fashion-wise myself! Love your FP pieces…my husband buys them for special occasions, as well…what smart guys we have! I love that red fringy sweater and have one very similar to your other one…a killer piece! Oh, and I'm over 50 and have no problem dressing any way that I want!

    • Reply dawnlucy February 26, 2014 at 7:41 pm

You look really fabulous, the fringe-y sweater is so nice and the long cardigan is such an awesome piece and looks comfy.
Oh, and of course the boho mood works past 40.
