I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings

After my review of eShakti (read here), I decided to treat myself to another eSkakti dress.  I couldn’t resist the whimsy of this sweet dress with the embroidery detail.  That the birdcages reminded me of Maya Angelou who has recently passed somehow seemed fitting as well.  As a high school English teacher, I often read with my class from “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” as well many of Angelou’s wonderful poems.


I love that when you order from eShakti, you can customize your garment.  This dress was shown knee length, but I’m so in love with the midi length right now that I ordered it longer.  What do you think?


I added a pop of pink with the handbag …



(Not quite sure what my hair is doing here, but let’s pretend it’s on purpose!)
I have a lightweight cardi that matches the embroidery, which would be nice to add for a cool evening.  


Or a cool morning! I think the dress would be cute with flats for teaching.  (Only 3 more weeks until school starts back for us, but let’s not talk about that!) 
How much do I love having dresses with pockets?!

    I love this dress on you! I am going to have to check them out! The embroidery is so lovely and boy, you have some long legs! Fab! I do love the Maya quotes, especially the first one, as sometimes I think we can feel like we merely exist, instead of living. I also love the quote about doing what you love and not being in it for the money. I always believed that you have to have a passion in life. Gorgeous as always!

    Thank you for sharing those Maya Angelou quotes, dearest Dawn…although I never had the pleasure of studying her work when I was still in school, I've often come across her words since then, and always found them to be inspiring and insightful. (English was my favourite subject in high school, by the way!!) And on the fashion front…I've been forcefully restraining myself from heading back to eShakti's site for a second helping; but now I think you may just have been my undoing!!       I am an EFL teacher, so I teach grown-ups, mostly. My students can be university students or professionals, CEOs or factory workers… The youngest are 19, the oldest student I had was 72.

    I love Maya Angelou and I love that dress. I like that you got it made longer. It is perfect at that length. My favorite quote is also from Maya Angelou, "When someone shows you who they are, believe them; the first time." I think that is so true.
