The Art Institute NYFW Show

October 2, 2016

One of my magical New York fashion week evenings was spent at The Art Institute fashion show, where emerging designers from the Art Institute school system showcased their talent and hard work.

Each designer had a unique voice and point of view, but of course you know I had my favorites.  I’ll start with the delight of the evening for me. Bianca Zidik’s looks.

Hot pink with orange? White go-go boots?  Be still my little 60’s-loving heart! It felt like London’s Carnaby Street was revived!

To make it even more perfect, the models stomped along the runway to “Hey there, Georgie Girl” … a song I used to sing with my mom when I was a little girl!

Also I really appreciated this fun futuristic vibe created by Mimmy Begazo. The Jetsons meet Mad Max!

Julissa Arrington was inspired by a journey through an unraveled mind.

Aidan Escoto played with denim and patchwork!

Melody Hernandez used unexpected mixes of materials for her sportswear designs.

Rene Mejia was inspired by the beauty of ballerinas.

Ester Ashiru got her inspiration from a castle in Ireland.

Maria D’Ocon used Spanish design as a jumping off point for her bridal collection. (Am I the only girl in the world who never got too excited about bridal?)

Finally, Devon Pellazo wowed with bright color and bold shapes.  This collection was another clear favorite of mine.  Such interesting shapes and a really creative point of view!  And well, of course my fav color too!

Definitely some designers to keep an eye on.  Looking forward to seeing their future work!

Have a great start to your week, dear readers!
