Black Vintage

December 26, 2014
Missing my mom this Christmas, I found myself really wanting to incorporate her vintage coat into an outfit this season.  I love this fabulous wool coat and the cool silver buttons. It’s a bit large on me, but I figured with the oversize coat trend, I could get away with it!

I started with my favorite basic LBD from New York & Company.

I added classic pumps and a vintage snakeskin clutch.

And I did the messy up-do (thank goodness messy is in, since I can’t seem to make a neat one to save my life) with vintage-inspired marcasite earrings.

Mom would’ve loved the classic simplicity.  Sometimes less really is more, right?

Hope all my dolls had a very wonderful holiday celebration!  In my next post, I’ll be sure to feature some of my Christmas gifts.  Can’t wait to see what Santa brought all my fav fashionistas this year!

Thanks, Debbie. I like a lot of bells and whistles sometimes, but maybe after all the bling of Xmas I was ready for something simple!

Oh, yeah … gorgeous coat on you. Your mother, like her daughter, had excellent taste. Military jackets are back, I hear (were they ever out?) Just the right length this year, and if it's the sleeve lengths that need the alteration, that's the easiest thing. I'd do it, 'cause it makes all the difference. Does your dry cleaner have one … or have you been in the area long enough to find services? Regardless … you'll wear this forever and it's cool as anything. Have you worn it with boots and jeans yet?
You remind me that I have a bright red cocoon coat of my mom's put away. This might be the year to try to bring it out and back!

    • Reply dawnlucy December 31, 2014 at 12:16 am

Oooo I'd love to see your red cocoon coat! Yes, I totally need to get the coat altered! I'll have to ask around to find a good alterations place in my new hood. Wishing you the very best of everything in 2015, Jan!

You know … I went right in and put it on. Then took it right back off. Eww. HUGE style, not for moi. Nice thought though. Ha!
Happy New Year to you too, kid.

I am so sorry about your mom. I am sending you a virtual hug through the internet. I think she would have enjoyed seeing you wearing her things. The coat looks great on you. I love the little black dress and I want my hair to be as fabulous as yours looks up like that! You are beautiful!
