NYFW – Recap of Day One

September 13, 2017

Hi Dolls!  Here’s a little recap of my first day of New York Fashion Week!

Straight from the plane to the shows, here’s my post on my look that had to do double duty all day long.

Cathy the Bay Area Fashionista and I threw our suitcases in our hotel room, and grabbed an Uber to our first show. Cindy Monteiro at The Dream Downtown.

Cindy Monteiro is a brand new name to me.  Her pieces were created out of natural fabrics, and the color palette was beige, white, and black neutrals. I got an island vibe from her style, with embellishments like shells. The models walked barefoot, adding a casual edge to the elegance.

Then it was on to Michael Costello‘s bridal and formal dress presentation, I was wild over Michael Costello’s runway show last September, but to be honest I don’t get that excited about bridal. Is that totally ungirly of me?  However, the walls of roses, gorgeous blush pink dresses won me over anyway. And I loved that Costello used plus size models.  It makes me so happy to see designers embracing this trend and spreading the message that beauty comes in all sizes!  (Now, can we please see more “beauty comes in all ages” as well?)

Then it was off to Skylight Clarkson for Maison the Faux. I didn’t actually have an invitation to this one and so I waited in line with fingers crossed. Sometimes this pays off and sometimes it doesn’t, but I was super lucky and got in.  I was so excited because I love this brand’s funky irreverent vibe. You really need to the see the show, with the music, props, and lighting to get a real sense of it, but here are a few fun looks.

And me outside the venue …

The evening ended with a late dinner at Westville, a fabulous organic restaurant that I wish we had here in San Jose. And then back to the hotel to download photos and grab a couple of hours shut eye before the next big day.

Dolls, I would love to know what kind of coverage you enjoy from me for fashion week. What are you most interested in …Which designers inspired me most? What I wore? What bloggers I met?  What are the upcoming trends? Since this is just my second ever NYFW, I’m still trying to figure out how best to cover everything. Let me know in the comments if you have any suggestions.  What do you most want to see and read about?

And a big thanks to those who sent me DMs about my Instastories!  I’m so glad you all enjoyed them so much. Now if I could only remember to save each one so I can enjoy it later too!   (Live & learn … and learn …. and LEARN.) 😀

I’d like to know about trends that are actually wearable for the regular person.

Dawn looking fierce! I would love to see street style- what people wore on the street around the shows. Always so interesting to see what they put together.

    Enjoy!

Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style. Too be honest, the best outfit in this post is yours, and I am sure you picked the best of the best of the shows!

    Hi Dawn,
I’d love for you to share what went on behind the scenes, out on the street, the after-events, and what you and the “real people” are wearing. The fashion shows to me are the least interesting part of NYFW (I know, weird), but I love, love, love people watching, and if you can do that and share I would be so happy!
    Xo Heidi
