First of all, I really want to thank all my readers who took my survey. It makes me feel so special that you would take the time to give me feedback and so I wanted to take the time to share the responses with you. It means so much to me to know that I’m making a difference to some of you and reading through your comments has given me such a happy boost of enthusiasm for blogging!
A few of my favorite comments:
“Thank you so much for doing this blog. I really believe you have found a way for us middle age gals to still feel youthful but still classy. Your writing style is completely relatable. You can spot trends and make them completely your own. You have shown me how to use be stylish yet still be comfortable and casual.”
It’s almost summer! Oh okay, maybe we have another month until it officially starts … and we’ve been having unusually cold weather lately in San Jose… BUT I know summer is just around the corner and I’m getting my wardrobe ready for it!
Continuing my How to Build a Wardrobe blog series, this month we’re going to discuss what to do about trends and where to find inspiration?
(If you haven’t been following along, you might want to catch up with parts 1-4, available on the drop down menu above, but it’s not necessary for the enjoyment of this post!)
Here I’m wearing animal print, both a classic and also huge trend right now!
Trends Over 40
Many mature women aren’t quite sure what to do about trends. Are these even relevant to us anymore? I say yes! But like everything else, we need to make them our own. My advice is usually to create a wardrobe of basics and then pick and choose statement and trendy pieces to mix in here and there.
Trends can be fun and can stretch us out of our comfort zone to try new things. Or even encourage us to revisit styles we swore we’d never wear again! LOL! But I think the main point about trends is that you need to pick and choose what works for you, what you vibe with, and leave the rest alone.
White jeans are a wardrobe staple for many stylish women. They can make an outfit look chic and fresh. But white pants can also a bit of the pain in the butt, right? You need a pair that’s flattering, first of all. And secondly, it would be nice to know that if you spill something wearing them, it won’t ruin your day. Chico’s to the rescue with flattering and stain-resistant white denim. Along with a cool poncho and fun jewelry, it makes a great summer outfit.
This post is a collaboration with Chico’s, a brand my readers know I adore.
Please help me be a better blogger by answering just 10 short questions on this year’s reader survey!
I always love to hear from my readers … any time! Once a year I do an official survey to get some feedback about my content. It’s my way of figuring out what’s resonating with my readers and also how I can be more help to you.
As a little thank you for taking the survey, you can enter your email address to be entered into a $100 Nordstrom gift card giveaway.
I can buy cute tops all day long, but finding pants that fit and flatter has always been more of a challenge. That’s why I get SO excited when I find pants that fit really well and look great, like these from Lisette L. Montreal.
I’m not always an “it bag” girl. Sometimes I feel that the new cool bag trend will be over before I know it and the hefty price tag isn’t worth the short shelf life.
BUT, when a fun new bag trend is around $200 (rather than $2K), I start to consider it! Especially when it’s a BIG bag, and not some ridiculous teeny little thing that I could never actually carry much in. And especially when it’s the beginning of the trend and I see this one having some “legs” …. So I treated myself to the latest transparent Staud bag and I’m loving it.
Spring is here and the trends are fun! I’m sure you’re starting to see transparent handbags all over the place. The trend is hot and Staud is making the IT bags right now. They’re fabulous and affordable! Well, way more affordable than most IT bags! I had been eyeing the bags for awhile, then when Staud came out with this pretty shiny garnet shade, I had to have it!
