July 21, 2021

Vancouver & Secret Cove – What I Wore

July 8, 2022

Just got back from a very fun vacation! First we went to Vancouver, Canada and explored the beautiful city. We loved all the cool architecture (from classic to modern) and the huge mountains on the horzion! Lots to do in Vancouver: we checked out the lovely harbor to watch the boats, Stanley Park for a bit of nature, Robson Street for shopping, and Gastown for some history.

Here is one of my favorite travel outfits that I wore to explore Granville Island, a cute place for restaurants, shops, and a pretty harbor.

This is what I wore for a day of sightseeing in the city. I don’t usually think of wearing skirts when I travel, but a flowy skirt with sneakers, a tee and a denim jacket is actually a totally practical and comfy look for a day of exploring!

A few snaps from Vancouver!

After our “interesting” trip to Eleuthra Bahamas last summer, we were so grateful to just enjoy a wonderful vacation, with a nice balance of activity and rest and a nice balance of city and nature!

Where are you off to this summer? What will you be wearing? Let us know in the comments!

Also on the blog lately, comfortable sandals and a summer kimono with statement earrings.

Fun & Fashion,

Dawn Lucy

About the blog: Fashion Should Be Fun is me talking to you, other middle aged women like me who are over 40, but not over fashion.  We still want to look beautiful and stylish.  We still want to have fun with trends.  And we don’t need anyone giving us rules, because we’re all different. We all have our own shapes and bodies, parts we’d like to cover and parts we still don’t mind showing off a bit.  This is a place for me to share my love of fashion with you, style ideas, tips, trends, and inspiration. I know how liking the way we look can translate into confidence and energy. I know we have so much life left to live and so much adventure ahead of us. Let’s show the world you’re never too old to have fun and be fierce!

Summer Basics & Life Lately

June 10, 2022

This teacher’s summer has just started. And it’s been wonderful, but honestly very un-glamorous!  My best little buddy, Lucky (pictured below), has been going blind and he had a special procedure on his eyes a couple of days ago and I’ve been playing nurse.  Not only is he blind, but he’s on pain killers, so he’s acting drunk as well! LOL! It’s been an adventure.

Here are my favorite summer basics that I’ve been living in.  Nothing FABULOUS … but these are the backbone of my summer wardrobe.  (And actually when I find basics I love, that IS kinda fabulous, right?)

Casual Rocker Chic Outfit & Nordstrom Sale Cardigan

July 28, 2021

Well, for once I didn’t go crazy at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I decided to show miraculous restraint this year and only buy what I really wanted, which ended up being this warm and cozy Halogen cardigan!

Also recently I bought this Stevie Nicks tee on Etsy.  Are you a Stevie fan? I’ve been a huge fan since my high school days and I just loved this particular graphic of her.

Remembering my Fashionable Mom

January 18, 2014

How many of us got our love of fashion, clothes, and shopping from our mothers? All through my life, whenever I told my mom about something happening in my life, her first question for me was always, “what are you going to wear?” This was soon followed by, “want to go shopping?!” Any excuse for a mother and daughter shopping trip.  Not that we ever needed an excuse!

I recently lost my mother and I miss her more than words can ever express. She was a constant loving presence in my life.  She had so many admirable qualities, like seeing the best in people and always looking on the bright side.  But this is a fashion blog, so this post is just a little a snapshot look at my mom’s love of fashion.

I love this photo of my mom in the 1950’s.  Her and a girlfriend went on a cruise to the Bahamas. How glamorous!  Love her gorgeous dress, purse, and gloves.

Always such a lady!
Mom grew up in New Jersey and spent a lot of time on the boardwalk in Atlantic City.  Love these two pictures of her there.
What a hottie!

So put together!
Even as a mom, she still managed to look glam.  Here’s a pic of little me, with Mom, Dad, and Grandma.
I want that plaid coat!
I wish I had photos from more of our shopping excursions. They were so common that we never thought to take pictures. But here’s one of us at Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto.
A splurge at Bloomingdale’s was picture-worthy!
Last summer, I took Mom to Vegas for a gambling and shopping getaway.  She was in heaven!  Love this picture of us. Mom is looking lovely in a thrifted Abercrombie cardigan. She could always spot a bargain!
And for the last shot, lunch out for my mom’s birthday in September.  I definitely got my love of big sunnies from this woman!
My dear fashion friends, if you still have your mom around, please savor every precious moment.  Life is short and things can change so quickly. Make some mother/daughter memories to last a lifetime. Call that lady up and invite her shopping!
