Happy 2017 & Thoughts on a New Year!

December 30, 2016

The beginning of a new year is always the perfect time to reflect on the past year and also to think about what we want to do, be, and create in 2017!

2016 was good to me. It’s the year I turned 50, went to New York Fashion Week, and started thinking of my little blogging hobby as a small business (very small, but still)!

Have you made any resolutions, goals, or plans for 2017 yet?

Here’s my message to all of us:

Isn’t it time we all started just enjoying life more?!  I plan to soak in the sunshine coming through the window (even if it shows how dusty my dining room is),  I plan to relish my shiny new bracelet (even though I could really use a manicure), and be happy with a good hair day (even though I gained a few holiday pounds).

You get the idea, if you wait for all your ducks to get in a row to enjoy the little things, you’ll always be waiting.  Those mischievous ducks never behave!  Enjoy yourself, your life, your style … perfection is boring. Fashion and life should be fun!

My 2017 resolution is to not rush so much.  I’ve always been proud of my hustle, but sometimes I get carried away.  There has to be a way to hustle at a more reasonable pace.  Sometimes I find myself rushing around when I don’t really need to. It becomes a habit …. a way of being.

Teaching high school full time and blogging isn’t easy.  I love teaching AND blogging and don’t want to give up either!  After 25 years of teaching though, I’d love to eventually teach part-time and be able to spend more time on my blog, but until that’s feasible, I’ll just be working with a full schedule.

I know to achieve this goal, I’ll need to be very careful about priorities, spending time on what is most important and most enjoyable in my life. I want to slow down a bit and enjoy the little moments as they come along, imperfections and all.

And I don’t ever want to lose sight of my most important vocations, being a loving wife and pet mom … and of course, taking good care of my own health and happiness.

Along with that personal goal, I have some ideas for Fashion Should Be Fun in 2017.

  • I’d like to incorporate more beauty and skin care product reviews.  I worked as a make-up artist and skin care consultant for Clinique during my college years and I’ve always loved make-up!  When I started my blog, I just wanted to focus on one topic, but  now I’m ready to expand a bit.

  • I’d like to get my Fashion Should Be Fun newsletter off the ground and use it in some fun new ways to build more communication with my readers.

Frankly I have about 10 more ideas I’d love to implement, but again, back to my main goal: less rush, more fun!

Every year is a new adventure and I’d love for you to come along on my journey with me.  Readers are such a source of joy to me and become friends along the way.

Come on Ladies …

2017 … we got this!

Have you ever considered teaching at the college level? I worked as a newspaper editor before getting my MA in English and going into higher education. Schedules for instructors are very flexible. Most of my work is done from home. I now have a much better work/personal life balance.

I don’t have my MA, but thanks for the idea! And yay for a better work/life balance!

I love all your messages and need to incorporate many of them into my own resolutions! The rushing around has to stop…it’s crazy! Sometimes I realize that I’ve gone through the day without eating, drinking or even going to the bathroom! And the more your rush, the harder it is to SLOW down and relax. Wishing you a fabulous 2017 filled with sunshine and style 🙂 XO Susan http://www.themidlifefashionista.com

Yes, trying hard to implement this resolution every day! Unfortunately, I never forget to eat! ;P

Love your post! I was talking to someone recently about how I wanted to start living more instead of existing. It seems that I have recently going through the motions or rushing. I would like to take my time more and just enjoy life!

Yes, yes, yes! Keep me posted on your progress. I find myself having to stop rushing about every 10 minutes right now, but it’s progress!

I couldn’t have said this any better. Yes let’s enjoy the little things in life and not let life pass us by while we are trying to blog it!!!

First of all…I seriously can’t believe you are 50! You look fabulous…such an inspiration. I am totally guilty of the rush mentality and I really do think I’ve missed out on a lot because of it. Thanks for linking up with Ageless Style!
