DIY Step Hem Tips

January 30, 2017

I’ve been getting so many questions about these step-hem jeans that I cut myself, so I wanted to give you tips to do your own!

step hem jeans tutorial

#1 If this is your first time trying this, use an old pair of jeans that you won’t be too upset ruining.

#2 Put on the jeans and mark about where you’d like the hem to be.

#3  Fold your jeans seam to seam to do your cutting.  You can make your step as shallow or deep as you like.  You could measure carefully, but this is supposed to be distressed looking, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

#4 Take an old steak knife and attack the seam, teasing out threads, then wash a couple of times.

That’s it! It’s not rocket science, Ladies!  You too can make your own pair!

What to wear with them?  I’m finding SO many shoes look great, even these tall boots I’m wearing here.  I’ve worn boots, booties, heels, wedges, and in the spring, I think sandals will look fab too!

These outfit photos were taken by the lovely Cathy of Bay Area Fashionista on the evening of the Kendra Scott spring launch party.

Those look great Dawn, I have been wanting to do this too… do you do it on straight leg jeans right? LMK. I think they would look awesome with sandals too!
