First Day of School

August 10, 2014
It’s time for this teacher to go back to school!  Remember when school didn’t start until after Labor Day? Me too!  Oh well, we get out in May, so I can’t complain.

Thanks to all my Instagram followers who voted on what I should wear for the first day of school!  This outfit was the winner!  I did change from a white tee to this dressier black top, realizing that the jacket probably won’t last long in the heat, so I better have something nicer on underneath.

The heels might not last all day either, so I’ll stick some flats in my book bag!

Details: Karen Kane blazer (Macy’s), Calvin Klein tank (also Macy’s, also worn here), b.i.y.a.y.c.d.a. skirt (thrifted), Apt. 9 pumps (Kohl’s), & London Fog handbag (Marshalls).

And a doggy photo bomb shot …

So, if you were a high schooler, would you want to learn literature from this lady?!

What if I brought the dogs with me?!

Wishing all the teachers and parents a very happy back-to-school transition!

Very stylish back to school outfit. I'd believe anything you told me about literature just because anyone who dresses so beautifully and with such aplomb must surely know her academic stuff as well. It has a properly optimistic attitude to subtly encourage your students. You look lovely, and I'm sorry your summer is over so soon.
Speaking of literature (or a strange response to some Victorian literary tropes) I'm reading *Artful* by Peter David right now … it's an over-the-top, dark romp featuring the adventures of an older Artful Dodger as protector of the runaway Princess Alexandrina Victoria … yes that one, the future queen of England … and Bram Van Helsing, the child of his famously obesessed father, who is a fabled vampire hunter in his own right. Fagan re-emerges as vampire who becomes the Ripper-esque "Springheel Jack", and we are re-introduced to Sherlock Holmes' Baker Street Irregulars (Holmes hasn't shown up but I'm only a little over half way. He may well yet.) So far, it's a corker, and a great guilty pleasure of a novel. I've read everything Dickens wrote that I can find, and although I loved *Oliver Twist,* I sort of agree with the author of this strange little book, Mr. David, that Oliver was a bit of a pathetic little whiner. If you haven't read this one, I recommend it as an alternative look at some beloved characters who you might wish to hear more of. Yikes, actually.
Can you take your dogs to school? Probably not, but a dog in the room always makes things better.

    • Reply dawnlucy August 13, 2014 at 11:18 am

Oh wow, I can't wait to check out "Artful"! Thanks for your sweet compliments. I'm happy to say the first day went swimmingly! And you're right .. no dogs at school. Boo! 😉

Do, please, let me know if you get to read it. Know you're nutso busy, and may never get to it, though. Or it might not be to your taste to begin with. I'd love to see what you think of it, if you do. Interesting for an class of older students who have already delt with the Victorians.
