In October I had one of the most surreal and fun times in my life! My husband and I went to a taping of The Price is Right and I actually got called to COME ON DOWN!!!
If you get a chance, go to a taping. I can’t recommend it enough! Even if I hadn’t been called down, I still would’ve had a blast. Hopefully this blog article will help you know how to prepare, what to expect, and especially help you get called on to play!

My husband and I waiting in line. It was his 60th birthday and I really wanted him to get picked, but since he didn’t, we’re both so glad that I did! Our numbers were our place in line (10 & 11 out of about 165) and later these tags were replaced with our name tags.
BEFORE YOU GO
GET TICKETS!
Try to get Priority Tickets, which guarantees you a place. (The other ticket option is a line voucher and that will only get you in if there is room.) You can pick from shows at 8, 11:30 or 2 pm. Just pick one show when you request your tickets.
PLAN OUTFIT
You want to be noticeable, but you also really want to be comfortable! The whole process from the time you get there until you leave is about 5-6 hours, and you will be standing a lot of the time. All Price is Right fans know that fun t-shirts are a favorite clothing choice. (Don’t be fooled by the On Camera Audiences website, which advises no tees. We found out that is just general rules for most shows and not specific to TPIR.) Be colorful. Wear comfortable closed-toe shoes.
WATCH EPISODES
We watch the show regularly anyway, but we made sure to pay extra attention to the rules of each game. We also tried to remember the prices of prizes we saw more than once. We made it a game for ourselves to play along with each show, which made watching even more fun!
THE DAY BEFORE
GET YOURSELF TO GLENDALE, CALIFORNIA.
We stayed at the Hilton in Glendale and it was nice and only a 15 minute drive to the studio. We ran into audience members from that day’s taping in the lobby and got to ask them a bunch of questions, which was really fun. The night before we did a practice run to the studio to be sure that we knew exactly where to go. My other piece of advice is to get a good night’s sleep, but I sure didn’t. I was way too excited!
ON THE DAY!
GET THERE EARLY
The nice ladies we met in the hotel lobby told us that they thought it was helpful to get there really early even with priority tickets, so we got there at 6, even though the tickets said 8. I would suggest that you try to be one of the first 15 people there. Not only does getting there early show your enthusiasm, but once you are inside the building, you will be seated in the front row, which gives you an extra chance to be noticed by the staff. And by the way, all the staff members are SO nice!
WAIT
You’ll be doing a lot of waiting, so make friends in line and have fun. They have bathrooms, coffee, water and snacks for you while you wait. Sometimes you’ll be sitting down and waiting, but also you will be standing A LOT. The staff will show you an old episode and then later a video showing you what to expect when you get into the studio.
It’s nice to have your phone with you for a few photo opportunities (like the pics above), but don’t spend time on your phone. You can do that any time! (You will give over your cell before you go into the studio and will get it back right after the taping.)
INTRODUCE YOURSELF
At one point, the staff will lead a group of about 15 on you into another room where you will introduce yourself to one of the producers. Be yourself and tap into your true enthusiasm for the show! I’m sure they want to pick people they know are big fans, right? Be high energy! Who wants to watch a boring, deadpan contestant, right? And be supportive of everyone else as well. By this time, you’ve been waiting around for hours together, so you really will want to cheer each other on!
DANCE
At some point, there’s dancing! And boy, did I dance my butt off! I was having so much fun! I did get a bit hot, sweaty, and tired, and was wondering if I should’ve paced myself … HA … but hey, I think it was obvious that I was having fun and that must’ve helped me get picked, right?
THE STUDIO
After waiting in another line, we finally got to go into the studio. Being there on the set feels unreal. The studio looks just like it does on TV, BUT much smaller! And of course there are cameras and crew everywhere!
George Gray starts his introduction and everyone is going crazy. Then George starts calling people to “come on down” and it’s so loud that the staff has each name printed on a sign. They read one name, another, another .. and then .. OH MY GOD … that’s my name! I didn’t even hear it, but I saw the sign! (And I even got to keep the sign!)
From this point on, I feel like I was in a fugue state. I felt like I might faint. The whole experience is a surreal blur! But you can watch it on streaming and see how I did! It’s the February 10th show, Season 53 Episode 89!
I hope if you get a chance, you will go and participate in this super fun experience. If you do and any of my tips help you get picked to COME ON DOWN, please let me know!
Wishing you fun & luck,
Dawn Lucy

I actually watched that episode and didn’t even connect the fact it was you but I did remember it was your husbands birthday. What a surreal experience
I love that you saw the show, Linda! I think some people didn’t recognize me because I don’t always wear my glasses, but I wanted to be sure to be able to see prizes and prices the best I could! 😀 It was such a blast and I totally recommend going to a taping some time!! OXOX
