Over the Knee Boots + Link Up!

January 12, 2017

I’ve been wanting a pair of Over the Knee boots, even though I knew it wasn’t going to be a trend that would be super flattering on me or that I would wear very often.

over the knee boots with a fit and flare dress and kate spade bag

When I saw these burgundy ones on a fab sale at Nordstrom Rack, I couldn’t resist giving them a try.

Besides, I figured they would be perfect for this month’s How I Wear My series!

I adore the color and for the price I’m definitely keeping them. But I’m very disappointed that they barely are To the Knee boots on me!  I’m 5’7″ … tall, but not that tall. But maybe that’s better.  Hey, my thighs aren’t my favorite body part anyway.  The fashion gods work in mysterious ways!

Showing off my new Kate Spade bag here too. Another after-Xmas sale deal! Love the way all the colors just worked together so well in this outfit.   This exact Karina dress is on sale right now.

Also loving my new kitty cat Kate Spade wallet that I want to use it like a clutch!

And hey, fashionistas, I have a question for you:  If you have the OTK boots with the ties in back, do you tuck them in or let them flow free?  I like the way they look, though when I’m walking they flail around erratically.

Those boots! I have been eyeing them. I saw them at Marshals too. So many boots! So little time! You look amazing!

You just look spectacular my dear! Those over the knee boots are everything and the color is so in your wheelhouse! This is such a classy and fun look and you look so sleek and sophisticated. I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

I guess I never thought of them not being very over the knee if you’re so tall, Dawn!! I, however, do not have that problem in the least—ha ha!!
I have a pair in this color, and I’ve worn them way more than I thought I would! In fact, I bought a pair in olive green this year, and I have a feeling there will be more in my closet by this time next year!!
As for the ties in the back….it depends on what I’m wearing that day. Sometimes I tuck them in, and sometimes I leave them out. They do move around a lot—that’s totally what I noticed!!

I think these boots are super flattering on you! The color is magnificent and they look amazing with your Karina dress! I have a pair of OTK boots with ties and try to keep them tied (the key word being “try”). They always come untied and flail erratically as well. Then I just them hang! Oh well. They are still super cute!

Oh wow…your new OTK boots are gorgeous, dearest Dawn!! I adore the unexpected colour (maroon is fast becoming a go-to for me!) and the lace-up detail at the back is exactly the kind of embellishment I always gravitate towards, as well!! I’d leave the laces hanging like you did…just make sure they’re not so long that you trip over ’em!! XOXO

I just bought my first pair of OTK boots as well. I love them, and I love yours. I’m 5’7 too and mine barely cover the knee. But I think that’s ok for my first pair of OTK boots as I need some time to get used to the trend…it took me awhile just to invest in a pair as I was worried about the “pretty woman” look. I just read on another blog that you should buy a pair with a longer shaft length if you want them to truly go up over the knee. Maybe my next pair?

I have found it tricky finding the right OTK boot as a tall girl. Once I did though, I was so hooked! I love the color of these on you, and pairing them with a dress is one of my favorite ways to style them.

I too have struggled with finding OTK boots that don’t look like pirate boots. These are fabulous on you! The ties are super fun, but I guess if they are annoying, I would tuck them in. I know I hate things flopping around! These fit you perfectly and I love the color!

I bought some this year similar to yours but they are flat. (the men at my work gave me A LOT of grief said they looked like hip waders!) I think I am going to cut the ties because they are too long and it bothers me that they flap around. I also had to use some fashion tape because they fall down. They were on super clearance so I didn’t pay that much. I am not sure I’ll get much wear out of them with our weird Texas winters. Love the color of yours!

    • Reply Dawn Lucy January 19, 2017 at 4:26 am

Sounds like a fun bunch at work, though I wouldn’t take fashion advice from them! 😉 Yeah, I’ve been tucking in the ties too.

You look fab in those boots. I’m having the same type of problem with fit, but because I’m 5’2 I’m afraid they will be way too high for me. I mean OTK is great but up to my thigh? not so much. I love the color and maybe just maybe you’ll get more use than you think?

Haha … I have a friend who is 5’3″ and ordered OTK boots online and they came halfway up her thigh too! They need to make different lengths, right?! 🙂
