Leopard Cashmere for a Weekend Outfit

January 5, 2021

Hi Friends,

Here’s an outfit I wore on a weekend over the holiday break.  I really love this pretty leopard cashmere sweater that my husband got me for Christmas (and I noticed it’s on major sale now)!  I was tempted to go with a leopard with leopard look … and hey, there’s nothing wrong with that … but I decided I was feeling a bit more classic that day and went with my wool camel coat that I’ve had for years and still wear every single winter.  Do you have some things that have stayed in regular rotation for years?

I love cashmere, but I’ve been reluctant to get too much of it because it needs to be dry cleaned. But after reading up on it, there are safe ways to wash cashmere at home.  Do you clean cashmere at home? I’d love to hear your process!  Especially if it’s easy!

Here’s another shot of me on our excursion that day.  We spent our holidays doing socially distanced activities, like car rides and hikes. Here we are in the cute beach town Pacifica enjoying the ocean views.  And because we love being spontaneous, I’ve learned to pack a little ready-for-anything bag that always includes walking shoes or hiking boots, and a sunhat.  And now of course, always several masks!

Lately my go-to walking boots are my Jambu hiking boots. They’ve been getting a lot of wear lately.  And a neutral safari hat is great to always have on hand to protect your skin from the sun.

And just for fun, here’s a photo of my handsome hubby. I love my guy in chunky cozy knit!

That’s all from me today, Dear Readers.  In case you missed it, here’s my post looking back at 2020.

Yes I do wash cashmere at home. Just in the washing machine on a wool programme. Works for me.

    Hi Dawn,
Looks like you two are handling the lockdown really well! It’s great to get out to the ocean and enjoy a change of scenery every now and then. I try to do that as often as possible.
I have quite a few cashmere sweaters and wash them in cold water on the delicate cycle of my washing machine. Then air dry. So far I haven’t had any problems. But make sure it’s COLD, not cool water!
    Happy New Year Dawn,
    XO Heidi

Thanks for the cashmere advice! And yes, we’re doing the best with the lockdown. We’re really trying to find super safe ways to get out and about. Fingers crossed that we can all get vaccinated soon! Miss you!

I have been washing my cashmere sweaters for years; I hand wash it in a wool wash (I am a knitter, so I have tons of that on hand–not a fan of Woolite, at all–Eucalan is my favorite, and it doesn’t have to be rinsed), then gently squeeze out the water, wrap in a towel. I stand on the towel to get as much moisture out as possible. If you have room, lay the sweater out flat to dry–I have also hung them up in the bathroom, being sure to smooth out the fabric, and I have never had an issue. Your sweater is beautiful!

Hi Dawn, I have always loved cashmere, and when living in California, it all went to the cleaners. When we moved to Cuenca, Ecuador, the dry cleaning was a little iffy…It is on the cooler side here; elevation is 8000+, so I have to admit, I’ve been stocking up on cashmere, and I wash it…In a bag, w/wool lite, delicate, cold, air dry. I found the key is also to remove quickly and layout to air dry.
I hope the leopard sweater is still in stock! Your look with the coat is glorious…xok

Did you get the leopard sweater? Thanks for the washing advice. I’m loving cashmere too much now to avoid it because of the care! 😂
