It’s always fun to break the fashion rules that most of us grew up with. If you’re my age or older, you grew up learning to never mix navy and black. Of course now the navy and black combination is not only okay, but it actually looks quite chic!
Shop this Look:
I’ve been trying to shop my own closet more lately. Mixing and matching new things together gives you a feeling of a whole new outfit, without the price tag! For this look, I wore my Ruti Brushstroke On the Loose Pants (not currently available in that combination, but you can get the print in a different silhouette here and a similar look in black. Actually, the only piece I could find an exact match for are these comfortable Nine West basic black pumps. The blazer was a gift from Lafayette 148 several years ago and their current selection is fabulous but quite pricey. The black shell is a decade old and from J.Crew. The pretty Jenny Bird was a Christmas gift. And Alexander Wang bucket bag you’ve seen around here again and again. When I have a favorite, I sure do wear it a lot! In the Shop This Look above, I gave you lots of options. But don’t forget to look and see what you have already in your closet that you can use to recreate this look … and give it your own spin!
Where would you wear this outfit? I would wear it for a nice dinner out/date night, a fancy lunch with the girls, or a dressy day at work.
Did you grow up learning to never mix black and navy? What is your opinion now? Do you ever wear them together?
Also on the blog lately, a fun spring dress and an organic cotton shirt.
