Travel Wardrobe – Amsterdam in Spring/Summer

June 17, 2018

Okay Dolls, it’s time to see how my travel wardrobe actually held up on my trip!  If you missed it, here’s my packing post.

(Something about this particular little village just stole my heart!)

Thoughts on what I packed and what I wore  …

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes

Okay if you’re going on an adventure with lots of walking and exploring, you really want to base your outfits on your shoes.  We walked miles and miles every day … which I LOVED and my husband did not. Hey, all that walking helped to offset all that vacation eating!

Originally I had planned on two pairs of sandals and two pairs of sneakers.  The weekend before the trip, I found some fun rainbow sandals that I couldn’t resist and stuck them in my luggage as well.  I was really happy with all the shoes I brought. The weather was warm and I couldn’t done with another pair of sandals and just one pair of sneakers, but you never know. Plan to rotate your footwear.  No matter how comfortable something is, after a whole day and many miles, you’ll be ready for something different the next day.

Bottoms

I’m such a blue jeans girl that I was wondering if I really would wear anything else.  But hey, after a week of eating Dutch pastries, I was happy to slip into some slimming black pants!

I also brought a maxi skirt but ended up switching out the skirt for one I bought on the trip, which ended up being just perfect!

Oh and all hail the track pant trend … it makes being comfortable and looking chic on an airplane a snap!

Tops

T-shirts seemed perfect for every day in Amsterdam. I preferred my 3/4 length sleeve tees in stripes, but I also wore short sleeve tees, and even a tank on a hot day.

Jackets & Sweaters

Okay, I brought way too many jackets and sweaters.  For one thing, you never have to worry about that freezing cold air conditioning in Amsterdam.  If it’s warm outside, it’s usually warm inside too.  And it doesn’t seem to cool down as much in the evening as it does in California.  I brought a long cardigan, a utility vest, a denim jacket, a hoodie, and a packable rain jacket.  I was going to throw in my leather moto and glad I changed my mind!  I only actually ended up wearing the vest and rain jacket.  With sprinkles off and on a couple of days, the packable rain jacket really did come in handy.

Bags

Okay I was excited to wear my fanny pack/ belt bag in this trip, but the first time I saw my photo with it, I decided not to wear it again.  How can such a little thing add like 10 pounds?  Anyone else feel this way?  My crossbody was my workhorse. The hubby said he’d be carrying the backpack every day, but that didn’t last long (lol), so I did wish I had brought a tote bag. Of course it was easy to pick up a fun little souvenir tote, so no problem.

Scarves & Jewelry & Hats

I brought two scarves, a leopard print and a houndstooth.  I hadn’t worn the houndstooth in awhile and I forgot that it never really hung quite right.  My leopard print scarf was perfect though.  I only brought small silver hoops earrings and some larger fun gold hoops.  I bought a pair of star earrings on the trip and wore them too!  And of course I never go anywhere without a sun hat.

So, there you have it.  I know this isn’t a travel blog, but would you enjoy a more travel focused post about Amsterdam?  I’m not travel expert, but I would be happy to share if anyone is interested.

And don’t miss my street style snaps!
