At New York Fashion Week, I picked up on a lot of trends to try right now for Fall/Winter ’16 AND wear into Spring/Summer ’17! One of the perfect trends for now and later is YELLOW!
This is an updated version of my comprehensive guide to building a wardrobe that really works for you and your lifestyle!
This is an outfit created by following all my own suggestions: neutral colors in personally flattering silhouettes, with a pop of my favorite accent color.
I’ve done a series of blog posts about wardrobe building, so if you’re a regular around here, some of this will be familiar to you. But I thought it would be a cool idea to distill all that information into one handy easy-to-work-with blog post. I’ve also added a few new thoughts and ideas, as well as updating the photos of course.
Is Cowgirl Like Me a Taylor Swift song? Maybe it’s Cowboy Like Me? Okay, so obviously I’m not a true Swiftie, but I do know and like a lot of her music.

DRESS (exact), BOOTS (similar), BANDANA (cuter than the one I’m wearing)
I just got back from a wonderful trip to Washington state. We explored all over and are thinking of retiring somewhere in the Pacific Northwest in a couple of years. Before I left for my trip, I bought this Lucky Brand Utility Jacket and it was the perfect travel jacket! It’s a good light-to-medium weight and rolls up in the suitcase. The jacket is longish which is always a plus in my book and the green is flattering (not too yellow). In California this is an all-season jacket! So really, I can’t recommend it enough.
For this week, I have something a little different for you. Here is a week’s worth of teacher looks. Along for the fun is my buddy Lynn. All these looks are comfortable for teaching and affordable for a teacher’s budget.
Here we’re wearing pretty blue spring fit-and-flare dresses, with denim jackets and comfortable footwear.
This bag was a gift from Strathberry. All opinions are totally my own.

Why I LOVE Strathberry
Strathberry is a luxury leather goods brand, created by a husband and wife team and based in Scotland. The handbags are works of art, with minimalist modern design. Each bag is carefully constructed by hand and takes about 20 hours to make. The work happens in Spain with dedicated craftsmen and only the finest Spanish leather. The timeless design, the high-quality leather, and the superb attention to detail make a Strathberry bag a heritage piece that that you’ll have forever.
Why I LOVE The Lana Midi Bucket Tote
The Lana Midi Tote is perfect size for carrying all of my everyday necessities. The interior space is roomy, with a soft microfibre lining, zipped side pocket, and a magnetic fastening at the top. The look of the bag is just yummy, with an unusual mix of smooth and pebbled calf leather to add such rich texture. The stitching on a Strathberry bag is always impeccable. The strap can be adjusted to fit as a shoulder bag or a crossbody bag. I love the colorblock choice here, tan and vanilla for neutrals, and a pop of unexpected mustard yellow! This gorgeous tote is also available in other colors, like navy, tan, tan with green, and black and vanilla.
