Wardrobe Building Basics – The LBD

January 21, 2018

I’m starting a new series on basics for wardrobe building and how can I not start with the best and most fundamental, the Little Black Dress?  One reason so many of us buy a lot but still look in our closet and claim we have nothing to wear is because we focus on the bright shiny new stuff and forget the basics. At least that’s been my issue in the past, a wardrobe that’s all spice no substance.  Though some women do seem to have the opposite problem and could stand to add a little pizazz!

flattering wrinkle free dresses

Let me start with a cute story.  Many years ago, my father called me one day and said that in the doctor’s waiting room he read in a magazine that every woman needed a Little Black Dress and he wanted to make sure I had one!  Haha …. Daddy!  (Damn, I miss him and my mom so much!)

Why A LITTLE BLACK DRESS?

The little black dress is just so darn versatile.  Buy one that’s classic, high quality, and flattering and you’ll be wearing it and loving it for years to come.  Add a blazer and serious shoes for business, some bling and heels for a date or party, add booties and a leather moto for some edge, or sneakers and a denim jacket for a casual look.  Also, not to be a downer, but it’s nice to have a black dress in your closet for funerals.  Sure all black isn’t totally required, but you can’t go wrong staying conservative at such a serious time.

When I was thinking of my LBD post, I reached out to Karina Dresses since they’ve become my go-to dress shop for awhile now.  Thanks to Karina for sending me this pretty black Ruby dress! Karina dresses are always flattering, wrinkle-free, and they look great wash after wash.

Here’s this one dress four ways.  Yeah, I was having fun playing dress up!

More LBD options …

So, I’ll ask you the question my father asked me so many years ago, do you have a Little Black Dress?!

Up next in this series, the must-have Flattering Black Pants!  Stay tuned!

That’s such a lovely little black dress! I have a few black dresses in my wardrobe – two black maxi dresses in fact, haha! I have a couple little black dresses too, and have the misfortune of having to wear one to a funeral. Definitely one of the worst ways to wear a little black dress, as you said it’s not nice.

Hope that you are having a nice start to your week and you had a good weekend! We had a quiet one.

I adore this wrap dress. The thing I like the most is that the skirt part flares. Perfect for almost any body type!
