Michael Costello at NYFW

October 3, 2016

One of my very favorite shows from New York Fashion Week was the Michael Costello collection, entitled: Midnight in the Secret Garden  It was full of rich colors and sensual silhouettes.

Unfortunately, my personal photos were all pretty bad.  This one above was one of the few useable ones.  All others are compliments of Michael Costello’s PR team.

The magical collection was full of deep rich berry shades and glittering gold.

Yes, that’s Tyson Beckford looking yummy!

Michael Costello, you might remember, is also a Project Runway alumnus.  Check out my fan girl experience at the Project Runway show here.

Along with to-die-for gowns, the makeup was also inspiring.  Lucky for us, I got the behind-the-scenes beauty scoop from the show.

HOW TO GET THE LOOK: “Michael stressed to us a passion for each model’s individual beauty, and challenged us to exude that personality through makeup,” said Edward Cruz, lead makeup artist for INGLOT. “We chose complexion products that are applicable to every skin tone. INGLOT’s high pigment formulations are made to be layered, which allowed us to create a high-intensity look with a seemingly effortless, blended aesthetic.”

THE KIT: Cruz created non-traditional, blended-out gold and berry eyes. He used Freedom System Eye Shadow Matte #296 and #299 from INGLOT’s new What A Spice! Collection ($7 each) as the base, and layered on deep gold and berry sparkle using AMC Pure Pigment Eye Shadow #81 and #24 ($16 each). Cruz layered matte, cranberry Lipstick Matte #438 ($15) with AMC Lip Paint #58 ($14) to create an opaque, berry ombre lip.”

Isn’t it a dramatic and beautiful look?

A bit of background about Michael Costello: he is of Romani background, grew up in Palm Springs, and went to high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Costello is a favorite of the stars and has dressed Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Rita Ora, and many more celebrities.

    Gosh, it looks amazing Dawn!!!
Can I ask how you went about this whole Fashion Week? Did you request the invites, or did you know someone?
I’m not sure if I’d really ever like to go in person, but then again, one should step outside their comfort zone, right?

Hi Jodie! It was out of my comfort zone too! If you decide to go, email me and I’ll help all I can. Yes, you reach out and ask for invitations. I had tons of help from Cathy of Bay Area Fashionista.
