Of course my blog is mostly fashion, but fashionistas love a beautiful setting and I couldn’t resist giving you the WHOLE scoop on the delightful Sands Hotel and Spa!
The Location
Sands Hotel & Spa is just a ten minute drive from all the best shopping and restaurants in Palm Desert, including the El Paseo Shopping District, known as the Rodeo Drive of the Desert! The location is also convenient to the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens and Coachella Polo Grounds. And beautiful Palm Springs, including the airport, is just a 30 minute Uber ride away.
The Decor
The decor is totally dreamy and oh-so-Instagrammable! A delightful blend of Moroccan art and Mid-Century glam graces the lobby, grounds, pool area, restaurant, and guest rooms. The decor was designed by reknown designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, one of Architectural Digest’s Top 100 interior designers. Prepare to want to take photos of everything!
The Service
The service was outstanding and everyone from the desk clerk to the bell hop was friendly and eager to help. From grabbing me extra hangers to even taking photos for me, the staff was top-notch and attentive.
Let me apologize ahead of time for how many times you have to hear me “oooohhh and aaahhhh” on these little iPhone videos!
The Pink Cabana Restaurant
I ate breakfast twice at The Pink Cabana Restaurant and the service was attentive and the food delicious. I can’t say I ordered anything too exciting or special, though. Next time I’ll be sure to try the restaurant for lunch or dinner and be more adventurous!
The Spa
The Spa looks amazing and several of the ladies had spa treatments and were thrilled with them. So I do need to also put that on my list of things to do next time I go. Sign me up for a massage and a facial please!
The Rooms
The rooms are pretty, with a continuation of the theme of the rest of the hotel. I found the black and white tiled bathroom especially fabulous and really wanted to take it home with me.
My One Complaint – My only complaint is actually rather funny. In the room, instead of a coffee maker, there was a French press. Now if I knew how to work that, I’m sure it would’ve be delightful. But I didn’t. And I tried and failed miserably. I’m sure if I had HAD my morning coffee, I would’ve been resourceful enough to pull up a You Tube video or something to show me how to use it. But … Dawn Lucy without coffee, is not the brightest version of herself. Thankfully, She She came to the rescue and brought me coffee they had for us from around the pool. The next morning, I knew the secret, and just slipped out to the pool in my jammies for a my morning coffee.
The Celebrities
While I’m not a proponent of staying someplace just to spot celebrities, it was an extra thrill that both Brad Goreski and Ellen Pompeo were both staying at the Sands the same weekend as we were. I didn’t get to see either with my own eyes, which is probably just as well. Last time I meet Brad Goreski I was a babbling mess … he was super sweet though and I’ll always treasure the selfie he took of us!
What to do in Palm Desert
Try out Red Jeep Desert Adventures in you want to learn about the Coachella Valley and the San Andreas Fault and have a lot of fun while you’re doing it!
Check out El Paseo Drive and The Gardens on El Paseo for the best shopping!
I would also suggest Fresh Agave Mexican Restaurant for fabulous Chicken Mole!
