Retired!

June 8, 2026

After 34 years of teaching English in a public high school in San Jose, I am officially RETIRED!

This is a photo from our retirement party. I’m grateful to be “graduating” with so many wonderful educators. I can’t believe it. It doesn’t seem quite real yet and might not totally sink in until school starts up again in August and I’m not there.

I created Fashion Should Be Fun in the fall of 2013 in response to the style blogs I saw at the time, which were full of rules, or for those with huge clothing budgets, or 25 year olds with size 2 bodies. Where was the fun, I thought?! So I added my voice to the blog-o-sphere. I’m happy to say that things have changed A LOT in the last 13 years and there are lots of age-positive, body-positive messages now. Style feels more inclusive and less judgmental.

My Fashion Should Be Fun readers have been with me through some style evolutions. We all go through them as we change and our lives change. I feel like my taste has become a bit more sophisticated over the years, with more of a focus on quality, sustainability, and versatility.

Now, I’m very curious where my new retired status will take my sartorial aesthetic next! Will I become an athleisure enthusiast, like I was during the pandemic? Or since I won’t have to worry about an outfit being comfortable enough for a day of teaching, maybe I’ll dress up more? I really have no idea. Wherever I go from here, I truly hope my readers will follow along with me on the next part of this style journey!!

Fun & Fashion,

Dawn Lucy

I have a new shoe crush! These Lerma Platforms from Lonza Shoes are just so darn cool and comfortable too!

Have you heard of Lonza? I’m new to the brand and I’m very impressed. Lonza is a European footwear brand known for high-quality, modern design, and comfort features.

They let me pick out a pair of shoes and I fell in love with these, Lerma Platforms. The leather is yummy and the design is so cool. But the real cherry on top is the comfort! I was shocked how happy my feet felt in these!
