One holiday tradition that I look forward to every single year is going up into the mountains and cutting down our own Christmas tree.

It’s always a bit hard to decide what to wear to cut down a tree. First of all, you want to be festive of course! But it’s also very rugged terrain, which means walking through dirt, mud, and up and down hills. It’s also usually quite cold, but once you start the physical labor, it heats up fast. And you want something you can toss in the wash when you get dirt and tree sap on it.
This is what I wore for cutting down the tree this year. First I started with a festive hat and matching scarf! Then I added flannel lined jeans for comfort and warmth (and a little added plaid detail at the cuffs). I decided to also wear my new NYDJ sweater, with a hint of sparkle. My boots had to be something sturdy and all-weather. These are past season Jambu, but these would’ve been a great option. And I added a top layer of a long zip hoodie.
We had such a fun time as always. We got a big tree this year, so it was extra work cutting it down, getting it to the car, and getting it home! But it’s always worth it.
Growing up we had an artificial tree and our tradition was to put it together, while eating donuts, and singing along to the Glen Campbell Christmas album on the stereo!
Do you celebrate Christmas? What is your tree tradition?

About the blog: Fashion Should Be Fun is me talking to you, other middle aged women like me who are over 40, but not over fashion. We still want to look beautiful and stylish. We still want to have fun with trends. And we don’t need anyone giving us rules, because we’re all different. We all have our own shapes and bodies, parts we’d like to cover and parts we still don’t mind showing off a bit. This is a place for me to share my love of fashion with you, style ideas, tips, trends, and inspiration. I know how liking the way we look can translate into confidence and energy. I know we have so much life left to live and so much adventure ahead of us. Let’s show the world you’re never too old to have fun and be fierce! Kendra Scott statement earrings and a braided leather belt finish off the look.
