I hate shorts. And I always have … even when I was young and hot! I just never thought they were flattering on me.
If you’re like me then when the weather gets hot you need some chic alternatives.
Now let me be clear: I don’t like shorts on me. I’ve seen women of all ages look classy and chic in the right pair of shorts! But I find them very unflattering on me. Maybe it’s my pear shape …? Does anyone else feel this way? Or maybe you used to like to wear shorts when you were younger, but now, not so much? Anyway, whatever you’re reason … here’s some alternatives for my fellow short-haters:
Summer Skirts
Aww … yay for skirts! Knee length, midi, maxi … gauzy, lacy, crochet, jersey knit, poplin … okay, you get the idea. Pick the length and shape most flattering for you or wear a variety.

Cropped Pants
Crops have gotten a bad name for a long time. And I do realize why: they can shorten the leg line if not thoughtfully styled. You can avoid the unflattering silhouette by choosing crops without a cuff and also by adding a neutral sandal with a little heel. These two tricks will keep you looking leggy, even in cropped pants.

You’ve selected some fabulous pieces, I will be buying more skirts this year as I think they’re such a great summer look. Thanks for sharing and hosting. Jacqui Mummabstylish
I hated shorts my whole life and wouldn’t be catch dead in them until about 10 years ago when I found the right style for me. I still prefer pants but shorts now and then are fun. Great post! Happy weekend!

I think you’d look great in shorts, they’d show off your legs beautifully! You did share some great alternatives though! 🙂
And I had a giggle as I linked up my latest ost – all about shorts!
Thank you for the link up!
Hope that you are having a great week so far! Almost the weekend! 🙂

it is tough finding ones that are complimentary. YOu have some great ones shown here though. Thank you so much for featuring me, I would love to see you in a similar look.
Everyone’s body shape is so different. I actually like shorts, however bermudas look awful on me (shorter is better). I”m waiting to see what my legs look like this year though—haven’t worked out in forever 🙁

I cannot even imagine with your long legs that you can’t rock a pair of shorts! But I totally get it. These are some great alternatives. Have a super weekend!
I didn’t wear shorts for the longest time when I was working because I didn’t think they were appropriate. But now I’m all about them…although I still love skirts way better!!!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – we’re personal style sisters under the skin, dearest Dawn…I don’t like wearing shorts, either!! But I’m SO happy that Vancouver weather is finally warming up enough for all those other awesome options; even a die-hard denim lover like me wants to mix it up with the occasional dress or skirt!! P.S. I’m seriously envious that you’ve got an entire summer off to look forward to; lately, I’ve been finding it extra tough to fit my day-to-day life into a mere 24 hours!! XOXO

Great picks for the shorts alternative! The Florida heat has me still turning to shorts for comfort, but many times a dress or skirt is much cooler
I hate shorts too, and I always have! (One exception: I’ll wear cutoff jeans.) They always hike up in the middle so it looks like I’m wearing a diaper. Why does this happen? Ugh. Thankfully there are skirts!

I was just having this exact conversation with my hairdresser yesterday. I wore a cute dress to the appointment and said I just prefer dresses or skirts in the summer because I don’t find shorts comfy. We were trying to figure out why shorts aren’t comfy when pants usually are. She thought it’s because they ride up.
I too hate shorts too! Dresses and skirts are so much more flattering. Thanks for all the great ideas and the link up!

I’m not a fan of shorts either – at least on me. I much prefer culottes and cropped trousers, or a dress. I love the green ones from Nordstrom you’ve featured!
