I’m continuing my wardrobe staples series with another must-have piece, flattering black pants!
My wardrobe staples suggestions are a special 2018 series where I highlight a piece of clothing that I consider a wardrobe basic, something versatile and something I wear myself ALL THE TIME. In case you missed it, my first installment of the series was the LBD. I just added a tab at the top of the blog for this series, so you can always find what’s been covered so far.
Now, for the flattering black pants … they have to fit just right and be comfortable. I have several pairs that I really wear a lot, but my new favorites are these Brigette So Slimming Ankle Pants from Chico’s (c/o). I actually reached out and asked Chicos to send me these. I have the same pant in the cropped length and I knew the ankle length would be more versatile and seasonless.
Black pants are a great basic for every age and every figure, but for a pear-shaped women like me, they’re even more vital. Find a style that fits and flatters you. I always do better with a pant with a bit of stretch, but if you like a tailored trouser better, that’s a great basic too.
Black pants can be worn to work with blouse and a blazer, on the weekend with a denim jacket and sneakers, with a trendy top and booties for lunch and shopping with the girls, and with a blingy top for an evening on the town!
From last week’s link up ….
Jennie from A Pocketful of Polka Dots is wearing an outfit full of fabulous basics starting with black pants and then a chambray shirt, leopard cardigan, and leather riding boots. Looking fab, Jennie.
Do you have a favorite pair of black pants? Feel free to share suggestions for different body types in the comments below! And of course link up, Dolls!

Thanks so much, Jacqui!
Oh, I could easily wear my black jeans five days a week! I might be singing a different tune in the summer, but this time of year they’re just so chic and flattering. Love how you styled yours!

I agree! Thanks Gina!
They look like a great wardrobe classic! I find pants so hard to buy, being petite, so I only have one pair of pants in my wardrobe, haha!
Thank you for the link up!
Hope you are having a great week so far! First day of autumn here in Brisbane, although the weather is still very summer-like, ha!

Aww thanks so much, Kellyann! I bought these red shoes for a special event several years ago and I’ve been surprised how often I wear them!
I was just talking to a friend about black pants earlier this week. Can you ever have too many? I love the pop of red and the leopard❤️. I wouldn’t have thought you were pear shaped. I feel ya’ on that! XO
Aww thanks Lisa! Yeah, I’m a full size larger on the bottom than the top. You too? I need to do a post all about it one of these days!
I agree black pants are a wardrobe staple. I had mine out wearing them several times this winter. I don’t think there is anything more flattering! Thanks for the link up!

I always love cropped pants better then longer ones! And with that coat it makes an impressive outfit!
I think that’s because cropped pants show off our cute shoes! 😀

Dawn,
I agree that my favorite staple in my closet is black pants.
Black pants are a timeless classic but it’s how you have accessorized them that makes them chic and trendy.

It’s a good staple to have!
This look great! I love the coat with the classic black pants and red pumps. Btw, I never realized how difficult it is to find a great pair of red shoes until I started hunting for my own pair!!
It’s hard to find just the right shade of red that you have in mind, right?!
These look like a perfect pair of black pants. I just love that you added a pop of red and the gorgeous leopard jacket! Thank you very much for the shout out!
Of course! You are always shout-out worthy! 😀
Red pumps and that coat = Amazing!
Thanks! 🙂
I agree, some nice black pants are a must! Yours are perfect on you and I love that you styled them with other great basic pieces like a fitted turtleneck sweater, a leopard coat and some bright-colored pumps. You look fantastic Dawn Lucy and I really love this series!

Thanks so much, Ada! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Would you believe that I don’t own a single pair of black trousers, dearest Dawn?! Black jeans?? Yes!! Black skirts and leggings and tees and sweaters?? Yes, yes, yes and yes!! But I’ve yet to invest in “basic” black pants…which just goes to show you that not everyone’s go-to pieces are going to be the same!! You, on the other hand, are rockin’ these super-sleek ankle-length trousers like nobody’s business; and those lipstick-red pumps are beyond divine!! XOXO

One of my must have wardrobe essentials. I love yours, they remind me of MaryTyler Moore on the Dick Van Dyke show and Audrey Hepburn, both had adorable cropped pants like yours. Classic and fabulous look Dawn!
