NYFW – Maison the Faux

One of my favorite experiences at New York Fashion Week was getting to experience the Maison the Faux runway show!

If you’re not familiar with Maison the Faux, it’s a label that pokes fun at fashion in a loving way.  Their shows are spectacular theater along with showing off really cool pieces.   Maison the Faux believes not in Menswear and Womenswear, but Humanwear, and I love that androgynous vibe.  The main designers behind the Netherlands-based label are Joris Suk and Tessa de Boer.  They debuted Maison the Faux at the Amsterdam Fashion Week in 2014 and have been rapidly gathering widespread interest since then.

This particular collection entitled “Fauxmosapien the Evolution”has all sorts of visual delights, including hyperbolic chambers (or hey, maybe they were just a take on tanning beds?!) … everything together producing a kind of space age Wizard of Oz feel! The pieces have such attitude and I spy a lot of 80’s influences in this collection. I loved the callback to the black, white, and red vinyl rocker culture of the 80’s.
