Prepping for NYFW

It’s that time again, New York Fashion Week starts this week!  For fashionistas, NYFW is like Christmas, Disneyland, and birthday cake … all rolled into one!  We get to experience the creativity and the drama of the latest designs up close and personal!  We get to see fun friends we only ever get to see at fashion week!  And it’s the few days out of the year where we get to feel like rock stars …  I mean come on I hardly ever get “papped” on my way to school in the morning. Ha! Oh okay, let’s be honest, in NY street photographers aren’t exactly tripping over each other to take my photo either, but I will get my picture taken a couple of times!  And you never know who you might end up rubbing elbows with.  One time I got seated right behind Brad Goreski!  In another show, Kelly Osbourne (and her adorable little dog) were standing a foot away from me at the entrance.  I’ve spotted Olivia Palmero, Miss Jay Alexander, Kelly Cutrone, Louise Roe, real housewives, Project Runway contestants, and bloggers I’ve been following for years!

 

Sometimes the pressure of looking my best starts to get to me, but only because I put the pressure on myself.  I’m happy to report that the audience at fashion week is a smorgasbord of fashion choices, from basic black to rainbow bright, designer perfect to thrift store funky … and everything in between!

I start thinking about my outfits months in advance, but there’s always last minute scrambling … this year the wrench in the plans is the hot and humid weather predicted for this week. I mean I didn’t expect fall weather in New York in September, but last year we had a very pleasant week of upper 70’s.  Is that too much to ask from the fashion gods? This year’s weather report gives a heat advisory along with a risk of strong thunderstorms.  Oh dear!

Right now I have 6 outfits to take for 3 days, so I plan on at least one outfit switch a day!

I spent some extra time on my beauty routine this weekend. Soft Surroundings asked me if I’d like to try some new beauty products, so I picked out this VENeffect Micro Exfoliant and the brand new Skin Calming Mask (coming soon!).

I also tried powder dip nails for the firs time.  Has anyone tried them? What do you think? They look great, feel like gel nails, but I didn’t need to use the UV light which is good.  I’ll let you know how they hold up throughout the fashion week madness!

Last weekend I had my hair done and my eyebrows done. I have my outfits all ready to go. Now I really just need to actually put everything in the suitcases!  Yes, plural … we’ll see how it goes, but usually I end up taking two suitcases.

And dear readers, going to NYFW actually gets me kind of choked up.  It was always a dream of mine and I still can’t believe this is my life right now.  I want to thank all my readers so much for supporting me through this journey.  Some of you have been following along since my days of really bad iPhone photos on my deck, and I appreciate each and every one of you!  Just goes to show that we’re never too old to make dreams come true, Dolls.  My 50’s are shaping up as my best decade yet.  I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
