I’ve been thinking about style seasons lately. When I was a fashion merchandising student a million years ago, we learned these fashion seasons: fall/winter, holiday, resort, spring/summer. But I think that depending on our location and lifestyle, we all have our own personal version of style seasons.
(But hey, go ahead and sign me up for a lifestyle that gets a fabulous tropical resort vacation every winter!)
And as much as I love fall, I have to admit that we don’t really have fall weather in San Jose until about Halloweeen. The school where I teach starts in the middle of August, solidly in summer weather for sure. So I call this my pre-fall-back-to-school-summer season. I know, I know … I’m working on a more succinct name!
This outfit will be only one of my many attempts to bring a bit of fall-back-to-school-ish flavor into my outfit at this time of year.
To me the gingham and the statement necklace seem preppy with the basic denim pencil skirt. I added in some suede booties. Under the shirt, I have a plain white tee. Layers are always a smart choice at this time of year, but now that I’ve recently entered the “hot flash zone” layers are a must!

Your outfit is great – gingham is always a classic and I just love your booties. I agree with you on layering – it's always nice to take off a layer when the hot flashes swoop in 😉
Glad you can relate! 🙂
I adore that great skirt and love it styled with those booties, Dawn! Super-chic as always. Thanks for hosting this great link up party, T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com

Would love to see you Thursday for TBT Fashion link up.
Yeah it's a long couple of months of looking at fall fashion but not being able to wear it yet! 🙂
I love your gingham shirt with that necklace! I definitely think this is a perfect look to transition from summer to fall, even when the weather is hot. Here in Southern California it seems like the fall season doesn't start until at least October too!
-Katie
Where are you Katie? Yeah … I love Cali weather, but it's hard looking at fall fashion and not being able to try it out for months! 🙂
Thanks for hosting, as always Dawn! I agree, as a Floridian in NYC, "seasonal" clothing sometimes never even appeared in Florida until many months later than here. Interesting.

Fall just doesn't start in August – typically our hottest month in Texas. We hit around Halloween as well. Regardless, this is a fab look for the classroom. Have a great weekend!

Loving the gingham and statement necklace and especially how you gave the whole look a pop of unexpected with the wedge bootie! Too cute! Yea, it doesn't start feeling fallish around here until October, too. Happy Friday!
Thanks Jennie! Yeah we'll both have to drool over fall clothes from afar for a bit! 🙂
I'm not usually a "preppy" kind of girl, dearest Dawn…but you've won me over with your terrific take on the look!! That statement Rocksbox necklace adds just the right amount of glam to your untucked gingham shirt…and those booties are out-and-out gorgeous!! P.S. We've had a record-breaking summer so far in Vancouver, and I'm keeping my fingers tightly crossed that the amazing weather continues right into fall; I want to be able to enjoy our spacious new balcony when we move next month!! 🙂
http://www.StyleIsMyPudding.blogspot.com
Preppy is definitely not my "go to" either! Let's hear it for the rocker boho gals! 🙂
I still remember my "back-to-school" days. I used that excuse while teaching to always renew my wardrobe, I just figured I needed a new outfit for at least the first week. Gee, that just made me miss those days (kind of). This little number is absolutely perfect, so fashionably preppy and fits right in with your season of "fall-back-to-school-ish" flavors.
It IS a great excuse to shop, though it's been so hot around here lately. Thanks so much for stopping by, Trina! OXOX
Hi Dawn!

Did you see the F21 version for $20?! My actual shirt is old, from Target! But those two were the closest I could find on the Shop-My-Post app! Let me know what you end up with!
