Summer Basics & Life Lately

June 10, 2022

This teacher’s summer has just started. And it’s been wonderful, but honestly very un-glamorous!  My best little buddy, Lucky (pictured below), has been going blind and he had a special procedure on his eyes a couple of days ago and I’ve been playing nurse.  Not only is he blind, but he’s on pain killers, so he’s acting drunk as well! LOL! It’s been an adventure.

Here are my favorite summer basics that I’ve been living in.  Nothing FABULOUS … but these are the backbone of my summer wardrobe.  (And actually when I find basics I love, that IS kinda fabulous, right?)

Favorite Tee

This Gap Favorite V-Neck T-Shirt is my go-to all year long. I have multiples in white and black and I just added pink and green to my collection. I wear a medium for a slightly loose fit.

Comfortable sandals

Of course all my Jambu shoes are super comfortable.  You know I love those. What else do I wear in the summer?  These Clarks Cloudsteppers are heavenly.  I got them last year for our trip to the Bahamas and I pulled them out again for this summer. Happy feet = happy me.  That’s all there is to it!  True to size, available in many colors and several styles.

Comfortable Jeans

Is Dawn talking about comfort … again?!  Haha … always!  And Chico’s So Slimming Super Soft Ankle Jeans are THE most comfortable jeans.  True to size. (I’ve been wearing a Chico’s size 1, which is regular size 8).

When I want to wear a bootcut jean, these Lucky Brand Mid-rise Sweet Boot are my go-to. Lots of stretch makes these a joy to wear. Size 8 fits me perfectly.

Lounge Pants

These were an impulse Amazon buy and we all know those don’t always go well.  But these are winners!  I may or may not have like 5 pairs of these and live in them around the house! I love the large size for maximum flow and comfort. CYZ Womens Casual Stretch Simple Lounge Pants!

My other go-to lounge pants are my high-quality Everlane joggers.  They are thicker material, so not always summer-friendly.  But it’s morning right now in San Jose, and I’m wearing these right this minute. Enough said, right?  Size Medium fits me perfectly.

Hats

I’m allergic to the sun. Okay, not really.  But I AM serious about keeping my face out of those harmful rays whenever possible.  That means I’m always wearing some sort of hat in the summer.  My favorites right now:

Everlane’s The Baseball Cap  – This cap is the only one that really fit me right. Adjustable, comfortable, and sustainably made.

For a chic sunhat this summer I’m wearing this Chico’s Sunhat. The frayed edges and taupe band add cute stylish details to a summer essential.

Jewelry

Loving this simple and pretty Kendra Scott’s Jenna Choker and Kendra Scott Maggie Medium Hoops.

I’d love to know what basics you’ve been living in this season so far! What are the pieces you can’t live without? And as always, please feel free to send me any questions! Enjoy the beginning of this fun season, my dear friends.

Fun & Fashion,

Dawn Lucy

About the blog: Fashion Should Be Fun is me talking to you, other middle aged women like me who are over 40, but not over fashion.  We still want to look beautiful and stylish.  We still want to have fun with trends.  And we don’t need anyone giving us rules, because we’re all different. We all have our own shapes and bodies, parts we’d like to cover and parts we still don’t mind showing off a bit.  This is a place for me to share my love of fashion with you, style ideas, tips, trends, and inspiration. I know how liking the way we look can translate into confidence and energy. I know we have so much life left to live and so much adventure ahead of us. Let’s show the world you’re never too old to have fun and be fierce!
