How many times have you seen me wearing shorts on the blog? I think zero, right? Unless it’s an old post I don’t remember.
But I decided this summer was the summer I was going to break out of my self-imposed anti-shorts rule and finally stop wearing jeans all summer long! Okay, I always wear a lot of sundresses in the summer as well, but sometimes I don’t feel like wearing a dress or skirt. I’ve always had a thing about my legs, but you know what? The body acceptance movement has really helped me with that silliness. Cellulite? Guess what? Totally normal. Same with veins, stretch marks, chubby knees, wrinkles … normal, fine, no big deal.
So far I have two pairs of shorts, both from Everlane. (I know, I know … I’m obsessed lately … but if you’re tired of Everlane, I promise I have other brands coming soon!) I love both of them! I have these easy shorts, as well as this pair of denim shorts. I couldn’t resist when these shorts were labeled A-line! A-line shorts? Enough room for my thighs? Yeehaw, sign me up. And they didn’t disappoint. (True to size – I’m wearing a 29.)
Do you have a thing about covering up any particular body part? I’m sure I learned this from my mom who refused to leave the house without her knees, elbows, and decolletage completely covered up. If you feel comfortable, please share with us in comments!

Cool! I wish we could wear shorts! It’s so bloody cold! Hope to see you on my Fancy Friday link up party.
Aww …nice and warm here in California! You must come visit!
Whaaat? There’s nothing wrong with your legs!
I’ve decided to wear shorts rather than jeans this summer too. I’m not self-conscious about the veins, cellulite, and so forth (although I have them in spades.) My issue has been with accepting the fact that my legs are blindingly white. I have extremely fair skin and have eschewed the sun for decades. I’m sure I did enough cancer-risking sunbathing in the ’80s, thanks. Self-tanners – no matter how well they worked for others – always make me look orange or dirty, so I stopped wasting my money. My daughters have inspired me to let that nonsense go. They grew up without the pressure to be Christie Brinkley tan and wear shorts and mini dresses without a second thought. 2021 is the year I’m letting my pale flag fly! Vivos los pantalones cortos!
OMG … YES! My legs are deathly pale too! Good for us feeling confident and comfortable with ourselves. Getting older sure has its perks!! 😀
Your legs are great for shorts! Find a neutral shoe and vavoom! This outfit looks great too. Can’t wait to see you in more shorts. Love Everlane!!!
Thanks, Laurie!
I’ve always been self conscious of my flabby legs haha! Going to force myself to wear shorts this summer, you look fantastic:)
Aww thanks! Yes, same … I’ve always be shy about my legs!! 🙂
Wow, great post
thanks
loved the “cover-up” photo. Good gams, so why not. Not for me, but you go girl!
xok
Aww thanks! 🙂
I started investing in long skirts and longer dresses this summer but maybe I need to think again. I’m 41 and I’m feeling self-conscious about my legs because they’re very pale white (I like to joke that the same color as my sneakers). Self-tanners are miserable for me and I just don’t want to waste money on spray tan. So I guess, Put on your sunglasses world, to fight the glare of my lily white legs all summer long!
I’m very pale too! Obviously! 😂 You do whatever feels good to you. Honestly, I still wear midi or maxi skirts and dresses a lot in the summer, but it’s nice to have the option of shorts again for some occasions. My mom always taught me to cover up any parts that aren’t your “best” (according to cultural beauty standards) … and I’m just starting to break out of that mindset now at (almost) 55! Thanks so much for stopping by!
