Oversized dresses draw a mixed response from my friends and readers. Some love them. Some hate them. Some say they look good on me, but they would never wear them. (Possibly they’re just being nice!) But I’m a huge fan. Especially in the hot summer when I love something that seems to float around my body instead of touching it!
Here’s a recent outfit from a weekend picnic. You’ve seen the dress before and I’m loving it right now with the combat boots to add a bit of edge.
Here are a few other oversized dresses that are in regular rotation for me.
This cocoon dress is a summertime favorite.
This shirtdress was a life-saver when visiting Quebec City the week it had a record breaking heat wave!
This dress has an optional bow that gives in more shape when I add it to the look.
Love this flowy gauze dress in the summer!
Tips for wearing an oversized dress:
Try to show some skin somewhere … a shoulder, an arm, a calf, an ankle … so that you’re not swallowed up head to toe!
Choose a size that hangs nicely on you, skimming over the body.
If you’re on the shorter side, you might want to try a shorter hem.
Keep accessories funky and/or chic. You don’t want to look frumpy.
…
And let’s face it, Dolls. Many of us have been quarantine eating … me included. I’m definitely not beating myself up over it, but I am trying to rein it in before I need a whole new wardrobe. A pretty dress that flows and floats around me may be just the thing to beat the summer heat, as well as hiding that quarantine pudge.
With the exception of the gauze dress, the exact dresses are no longer available. However, I found plenty of really fab ones!

Haha, yes oversized dresses are great right now! I look weird in bodycon ones right now! Have to skip the cookies! Love your gingham dress!
So hard to say no to cookies! 😀
love the oversize dress! the polka dot with boots is a cool look!
Thanks so much, Jenn! OXOX
I have a few flowy ones and enjoy them. And I genuinely like them on you. Also, people tell me “you can pull ________ off, but I can’t”, often. I too wondered if they were just being nice. Lol
Haha … Maybe they mean it, right?! 😀
HI Dawn,
All those dresses look great on you! When I say “you can pull it off” it’s usually because I wish I looked that good in ____, too.! Often those oversized items make me look like a potato, but every once in a while I find something that is just right. I love the feeling of a dress that skims over, rather than hugs, my body! Not that I have anywhere to wear a new dress right now, I recently purchased two for summer.
HOpe all is well with you! By July I think we’ll able to meet on separate benches for a coffee!
XO Heidi
Yes to separate benches for coffee this summer! I’m so in! 😀 Actually I tell people they can pull things off and I really do mean it! Lots of women still look great in shorts, but I do not! 😀
LOVE the Eva Trends dresses on their website. Have you been happy with the quality? And I’ve long admired that black cocoon dress on you. I assume it’s no longer available and that’s why you don’t mention the name – can you tell us who made it? I’m wondering if it’s available on Poshmark or other resellers? It’s SPECTACULAR! Thanks for all the fun posts – something to look forward to right now when many of us are still stuck at home!
Hi Lee,
I’m so glad you like this cocoon dress as much as I do. I’ve had it for YEARS. It came from Shein.com and is no longer available. I don’t shop that site any longer because the quality is poor, but this dress happened to be a winner. I find Eva Trends is really hit and miss to be honest. My polka dot dress is amazing … looks just as good coming straight out of the washer and dryer. But I’ve been disappointed with items as well. I’m so glad you’re enjoying my posts! Stop by any time and always feel free to ask any questions!
