It was an anything goes fashion evening at my 30 year high school reunion this weekend. And that’s the way it should be … everyone wearing what makes them happy!
Of course I wanted to dress up a bit.

I got a couple of Audrey Hepburn comparisons and what fashionista doesn’t want to hear that?!
This is going to sound so “fashion nerdy” but I really loved the contrast of all the different textures. There was the wavy top, the woven skirt, the snakeskin bag, and then the shiny patent leather shoes. I think it all worked together so well since I kept the color palette simple.
Off we went to the reunion. My handsome husband was such a good sport to go with me.
And here’s the bevy of beauties who greeted me there! So fun to see so many faces from the past. And what a great looking group!

So fashion dolls, have you been to any reunions lately? What did you wear?
Wednesday evening, my husband and I got to be a part of rock and roll history when we saw Motely Crue perform an amazing show in their final tour as a band.
Any of you around in the 80’s know Motely Crue was one of the iconic hair bands of glam rock. My hubby and I were both in that scene back in the day, him as a performer and me as a fan.
The songs of those years transport me to a time when I drove a little Fiero, wore a Wilson’s leather jacket, used a ton of hairspray to keep my spiral perm looking “bitchin” and listened to Crue, Ratt, Poison, and Cinderella on cassette tapes. (I’m sure I lost a few of my younger readers here ….)
But anyway, back to the present. What would I wear to this fun rock concert? I didn’t want to look like I was wearing a costume and yet I wanted to be in the rocker spirit of things! This is what I came up with (with a lot of fun suggestions from my FB and IG buddies).
I wore distressed jeans (Old Navy) and a black V-neck top (J. Crew).
The rock and roll is in the details … moto jacket (Members Only), layered chain necklaces (old), black booties (old and comfy), studded belt (Calvin Klein) and a pop of red with a studded cross body bag (Jessica Simpson).
Did I really wear something from preppy headquarters J. Crew to a glam rock concert? Yeah, but I think I pulled it off with the accessories.
And heck, isn’t that cool zipper back detail a little bit rock and roll all on it’s own?

The concert was SO much fun!
Alice Cooper was such great opening act, with all his theatrical stunts!
And of course Motely Crue kicked some rock n roll butt!
After my review of eShakti (read here), I decided to treat myself to another eSkakti dress. I couldn’t resist the whimsy of this sweet dress with the embroidery detail. That the birdcages reminded me of Maya Angelou who has recently passed somehow seemed fitting as well. As a high school English teacher, I often read with my class from “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” as well many of Angelou’s wonderful poems.
I love that when you order from eShakti, you can customize your garment. This dress was shown knee length, but I’m so in love with the midi length right now that I ordered it longer. What do you think?

(Not quite sure what my hair is doing here, but let’s pretend it’s on purpose!)
I have a lightweight cardi that matches the embroidery, which would be nice to add for a cool evening.
Or a cool morning! I think the dress would be cute with flats for teaching. (Only 3 more weeks until school starts back for us, but let’s not talk about that!)

Next, I took The Hadley Bi-Focal Sun Reader (in brown fade) to the beach! These are just gorgeous sunnies that fade to a light brown on the bottom. I could walk around in these … and stop to read … all without changing glasses!
And last, but certainly not least, here’s The Brit (in brown leopard). I love the retro sexy librarian vibe! I took this sassy pair to a cafe.

I’ve been getting more into vintage shopping lately. I especially loved the vintage thrift stores I found on my vacation to Portland. I bought two cool 1960’s garments there. First a teal and neon green skirt (see here) and then this top ….
Am I crazy … or is it really cute? Well, sure it’s polyester and hot as heck in the middle of summer, but … there’s something I just love about it!
Maybe the mint green and coral seem on point to me right now.
The vibe is kinda Laurie Petrie meets Mrs. Brady … and totally reminds me of a lady in my neighborhood where I grew up who always smelled like coffee and cigarettes.
Well, whatever the reason, I fell in love with it and brought it home!
To let it shine, I kept my other clothing choices simple … skinny jeans, nude wedges, straw tote, classic sunnies, and a few vintage cuff bracelets.
And geez, if my dogs aren’t photo bombing me, my husband is!
How can a fashionista get anything done around here? Ha!
