What is Barbiecore?
Barbiecore is a new trend that focuses on pink, pink, and more pink! The trend really had a moment on the runway at Valentino. Also, there’s the hype of the new Barbie movie coming out with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
For me, thoughts of Barbie brings back memories of hours and hours playing with Barbie dolls, creating a whole Barbie world, full of Barbie fashion, and writing stories for all my dolls to play out. Who can’t enjoy a little nostalgia?
Of course to some women, Barbie represents something else … a restrictive and unrealistic mold of what a women “should” be. I understand that complaint completely and hope that the new Barbie world can embrace more diversity in body shape and ethnicity as well. It will be interesting to see how the movie deals with that issue.
Since I don’t have the budget right now for a whole new pink wardrobe, I just added in a pop of hot pink to this outfit and tried to channel a little Barbie energy. For this look, I’m wearing my Kut from the Kloth jeans, an Elie Tahari oversized blazer, my houndstooth pattern booties, and a hot pink tee from the Gap (proving that you don’t have to spend a lot, or commit to too much, to still have some fun with trends!).
