Summer to Winter Dress (& Friday link up reminder)
January 28, 2015
Lately I’ve seen several bloggers wearing spring/summer dresses as winter garb and looking quite adorable! So I felt inspired to try the trick myself. Here’s my pretty eShakti birdcage dress styled last summer on the left and for winter on the right.
I have to admit that I was a little skeptical at first. but I really like the way my outfit turned out. I added a turtleneck with boots and tights for warmth. I think it’s a good look for teaching … comfy and modest. And I even noticed that eShakti still has this dress and it’s on sale.
(Actually lots of great sales right now at eShakti!)
If you’re excited to shop for spring but are still having winter weather, this would be a fun way to rationalize a new dress … style it for winter now and spring later!
(You can always count on me for an excuse to shop!)

I love how you styled this pretty dress for winter, you look great!! It's really nice both ways & thanks so much for the shout out. It was my first time wearing a summer dress in the winter and I was happy how it turned out & so glad people enjoyed the post too:) Marta http://www.sweatersstripesandsweets.com
That looks great! I seriously, I never would have expected it to be so good. I might have to try this today. I'm always looking for something a little different to wear to work.
Love this! Being from Florida I love to bring summer things into winter, since I hate to buy too much winter clothes since we only get a few super cold days! Love the all black!
Aww! Thanks SO much for the call out! I am flattered! eShakti.com makes great dresses and I just love how you styled yours for the winter! It actually looks more like a skirt now… I am in love with that dress, I love bird cases and it is such a darling pattern and color!
Dawn, I love this adorable dress on you, this fit and flare is a great style. I haven't done too much with summer dresses to winter, but may be inspired. You did a great job with those hot boots and sweater. Have a great day from the link up
Thanks so much, Jess! I love a fit and flare silhouette … so flattering! OXOX

I love adding tops over dresses for an entirely new look and style. I am sold on the midi fit and flair….as I am sure you already know from today's post! 🙂
Hey Dawn Lucy! I can't stop thinking about my spring and summer dresses. Now I'm tempted to bring a few out and see if I can style them for winter. You've done it brilliantly! I love the print at the hem of the dress as well!
Wow!! What a versatile piece your "birdcage" dress turned out to be, dearest Dawn…it looks just as fab layered under a turtleneck – with tights and boots – as it does on its own!! This fashion experiment couldn't have had a better result!! 😉
Love how you've turned your summers dress into a Winter one. The style of the dress is perfect for you and I like the birdcage detail at the bottom. You look great.
Thanks Jen! This look would be so cute on you! OXOX

I agree this outfit came out so great. I think the secret is in choosing the right summer dress, and yours (at least from the photo) looks like it has a nice weight to it and movement.
I think I actually like this dress better as a winter piece than for the summer. You styled it so well. I hope to join your link-up at some point but it might be a couple of weeks, I am swamped right now. XO, Jill

In the sale I bought a wonderful dress for spring/summer and I really want to wear it now! Its is minus 2 degrees C here! I have been considering doing something like you styled your lovely dress here but I am still not sure about it. It is white with navy stripes, could style it as winter white but it might just look daft. Jury still out, maybe later on the blog..
Try it! To be honest, I was kinda laughing when I put this look together thinking it would be a mess, but it came out cute! You never know until you try, right? OXOX
