Back-to-School Wardrobe for Teachers

August 7, 2016

Well, it’s that time of year again already.

Time to go back to school!

what the teacher wore
For those of you who don’t know, along with being a style blogger, I’m also a high school English teacher.  I love my job (mostly), but it’s always an adjustment going back to work after a summer of blogging on my own schedule.

School starts for us this week, so I put together a few looks to get me started.

For the first day, I’m thinking of wearing this I-MEAN-BUSINESS look. Always a good way to start off!
professional ootd
Karina Megan dress, Karen Kane blazer, Clarks  classic pumps, London Fog tote bag (Red Totes at Macys)
My second day I’ll wear this more relaxed look …
midlife style
Karina’s Nora in Butterfly Garden, Lucky Brand jean jacket (Denim jackets – Nordstrom), Clarks sandals, yellow MK bag

Psst …. Karina is having a big sale:

summer OOTD, WIW, WIW to work
Then after two days of dresses, I’ll probably want to mix it up with some pants …

Rocky 4EurSole shoes are so comfortable!
Gap white jean jacket, Old Navy culottes, Rebecca Minkoff MAB tote, Marimekko for Target printed top, and Rocky 4 Eursole My Time Slide

(Rocky 4EurSole sent me these slides and I’ve been absolutely living in them … so comfy!  Super cute with jeans too.)

Wardrobe Essentials for Teachers …
and any other creative or informal work environments.

1. The Easy Dress – one and done!  Find something machine washable with no ironing required. Wrinkle-free dresses look as good at the end of the day as they do at the beginning.

My favorite easy dress hands down: Karina.

2. The Perfect Pair of Pants – The perfect pair of trousers is always a wardrobe staple and right now cropped pants or culottes are the perfect choice.  Wear with sandals now and boots later … plus you never have to worry if the length of the pant is right with the shoes!

Shop pants:
Loft
Nordstrom

3. A jacket or cardigan – (or a “completer piece” for those of you who used to watch What Not To Wear).   Layers are important for mornings and air conditioning too. A blazer is always a professional look, but a denim jacket or cardigan also works well for most relaxed environments.

Blazers (Nordstrom)
Denim Jackets (Zappos)
Cardigans (Macys)

4. Comfortable shoes – Seriously can anything make a day worse than sore feet?  I’m sure we all suffer for fashion sometimes.  Occasionally I’ll start the day in heels and switch midmorning, but the best is finding shoes that look great and are comfortable ALL DAY LONG.

My favorite comfort shoe brands:

Rocky 4EurSole
Clarks
Rhea Footwear
Mephisto
Camtrade

the easy dress
OOTD WIW WIWT

So wish me luck, Dolls!  Fingers crossed for a smooth school year!

    Fabulous looks!

I had to laugh at your I-MEAN-BUSINESS look. I'm always way more dressed up at the beginning of the quarter than towards the end… 🙂

Have a great first day! I can't believe we didn't manage to meet up over the summer…

I can't believe it either. Where did the time go? Maybe we can have a back-to-school coffee or plan a little blogger meet up for the girls. OXOX

Yes to all your tips! I start my new librarian job in September, so I have started to think about back-to-school outfits again! (And I'm pinning your "I mean business" look — so classic!)

I love all three of these outfits! It's awesome that you have a look that conveys to students that you mean business on the first day! I hope your first week goes smoothly as it is always difficult to get back in a routine after two months off.
